  1. While the Russians are doing very badly, the Ukrainians have no hope of winning militarily either. Both sides are dogged at defense and suck at offense. Ukraine has had four counteroffensives. Three were successful because of subterfuge (good in warfare) but they ultimately petered out. The fourth, and most important, failed. It failed because they went up against well prepared defenses and Ukraine does not have the equipment or strategic capabilities to succeed.
