  1. Sacrificing troops for territory is the worst thing you could do. It is troops that fight the war. Holding on to some bit of territory in enemy territory, which you will not be able to do indefinitely, is madness. At the end of the war, Germany did not have troops in Germany sufficient to mount a real defense. These we in places like East Prussia, Budapest and other territories that they were not going to be able to hold, in any case. Again, sacrificing troops is the height of folly. Trained experienced units the the most important asset an Army has. The inability to understand that is the reason Germany lost so badly, and the reason the Soviets were so badly mauled. If the Soviets had not had the the US and UK as an ally, it is not clear that they could have won.
