  1. You do realize, I hope, that this concept appeared in science fiction decades ago. In addition, Musk's rockets and cars are not exactly earth shattering. There has been talk about commercial space launch for decades as well, from within the industry (I saw it firsthand). On the car front Musk has gone exactly the wrong way. Rather than building basic transportation at a reasonable price, and range, he keeps weighing down his cars with costly electronics and powerful engines. This is also the case for ICEs by the way, but that is another story. Range anxiety is still a driving factor, and the latest reports are that the sales growth of EVs is slowing down. More people are opting for plug-in hybrids, which make a lot of sense. Even Musk has acknowledged this.
