Peterson's description of Hitler's psychological. following Jung, is very interesting and important. The idea of what Ferguson calls the false dichotomy of structural forces and significant individuals in history is also important to understand. It seems to me that there is an interplay between the two throughout history. Actually, what this reminds me of is a science fiction series by Asimov. It is called Foundation. In it, a group of psychohistorians (I believe that is what they were called) used statistics focusing on the structural aspects to map out the probable future. Then, along comes the "Mule" a strong figure with outstanding abilities, who disrupts everything. After reading that series, in the early 1970s, I have always thought of Hitler as the Mule.

@AllOtherNamesUsed I had to look up those speeches. I was familiar with the Biblical reference though. Actually, there are many references in the Old Testament to "putting under the ban" whole populations. That was a common occurrence in those times. I don't know if it is a problem. I would not have used those references, but then I live in the US. Our situation is different. Personally, I don't think such references are useful in Israel at this time. Beyond the effect on the Israeli public, I think such references will have negative repercussions in other places. While I fully support Israel, I have always had a nagging feeling about states that are "national", again probably because I am in the US. I have to remember that most of the world's nation states are just that, national.

Nazism as a reaction to Bolshevism is a perfectly reasonable idea. What is interesting is that both were collectivist movements, and both were socialist. Recall that the Nazi party was the National SOCIALIST German Workers Party. Bolshevism was internationalist, whereas Nazism was nationalistic and racially based. The Soviet's leadership included lots of Jews and people who were not of Russian ethnicity. Stalin was himself a Georgian, not a Russian. When the Germans invaded the Soviet Union, they were actually welcomed by large parts of the population. They rejected these people. I have read and listened to a number of German soldier's war diaries. Many of the common soldiers could not understand this attitude. As they got to know the local people, they began to have sympathy with them, which was not shared by the leadership. This proved to be a catastrophe for the Nazis, but it was a flaw built into their ideology.

I am a bit disappointed. Even Peterson doesn't seem to get it. Everyone concentrates on the message and messaging. They totally miss what is happening. Terms such as left and right, progressive and conservative are obsolete. The parties now represent the two elemental philosophical currents. These are collectivism (socialism) and individualism. So, what does the Democratic Party stand for? Right now, it seems to be socialism and/or controlling the system to milk it for all they can get. They just want power in order to game the system. They have spent decades dividing up the electorate into class and racial groupings. I also have had contacts in the Democratic Party and have seen it up close. It all started under LBJ as the unionized workforce was declining in numbers, and they had to find another source of votes. Now Trump has even taken the unions away from them. He is also making major inroads with racial/ethnic groups. The thing is he is not paying them for it as the Democrats have done.

When I was 18, I went vegetarian (a lot of my friends at university were Indian). I did that for ten years and was very healthy. Then I started to eat a more traditional diet. Just before a life event (about seven years ago; not health related) I had gotten up to almost 200 pounds from about 150. I then changed my diet to pescatarian. I have seafood one out of three days. I don't eat any processed foods (never did much anyway). I am back to where I was in my 20s. My blood pressure is back to normal. I have no joint pain (I was beginning to have some). I drink only water and brewed tea and coffee (the last few years no alcohol). I do eat plenty of fats (butter with my morning oatmeal, cheese or nuts as a snack). I am in my late 60s. So, I am wondering about the meat part. Actually, I read speculation that the first humans that really started developing their brains ate a lot of seafood. This provided fats for their brains, the speculation goes.
