Comments by "Louis Giokas" (@louisgiokas2206) on "Mr. Modi Goes to Washington || Peter Zeihan" video.
A lot of what Peter says in this video comports with what I hear on Indian media. Their attitude to the west is still tinged with a bit of envy and derision. The fractured nature of Indian politics is what allowed the Europeans to take over the subcontinent. There really wasn't an "India" before the British created it. Without this unifying force, the Indian subcontinent would indeed be a collection of many more separate countries.

@varun2250 The closest thing to a unified India before the Europeans arrived was the Mughal Empire, which did not encompass the whole of modern India. It was already breaking up before the Europeans arrived. As for the name of the "East India Company", that was a typical European approach. In the Americas you had the Virginia Company, etc. Similarly in Africa. In the age of Empire, the expansion was mostly based on economics. As for using the name of the region as some proof of a unified polity, that is just plain silly.

@varun2250 Perhaps you should read some more history. Alexander was almost three millennia ago, and he did not penetrate that deeply into "India". That he used one name for it has nothing to do with whether it was a unified country. Perhaps you should go back to school.

@ANABOLIC_1105 Precisely. Another indicator is Kashmir. Even up to the breakup of British India, this was an independent "kingdom" whose leader had the ability to choose which part of the resultant countries he would go with.

@ANABOLIC_1105 I am Greek-American. All my grandparents came to the US from Arcadia in the Peloponnese.

@ANABOLIC_1105 Yes. And supposedly the people from Arcadia were never fully conquered by the Spartans. The territory is so mountainous that the residents would just haul themselves up to the top of the mountains and let the Spartans go by. I have been there, and can understand it. Just a little story. My mother went to pick up a car I was having worked on. The garage was owned by some people from Sparta. She spoke Greek to them and they were pleasantly surprised (she dyed her hair blond). Then they found out where she was from and started cursing her. Some things never change.

@varun2250 You have it backwards there. What you point out just supports my thesis.

@varun2250 The statement isn't empty. Go back and look at what I wrote.
