Peter, Peter, Peter. You gloss over what European imperialism was all about and the times in which it was operative. There are two major drivers for European style imperialism. One is resources (and markets) and the other is population pressure. The latter was always a problem, one which is no longer in play. You also leave out Asia. Westerners always do. The history there was at least as important and is playing out today. Only today, worldwide, the issue is resources, since demographics have completely changed.
