  1. What many -people don't remember is that the introduction of mainframe computers had a similar effect. Millions lost their jobs in back-office processing in companies in the insurance and banking industries primarily. Was there an overall dip in employment at the time. No. Not only were people redeployed, but new skills were needed (programmers, computer operators) and the companies could make their operations more efficient and developed and offered new products. The same will happen with AI.

  2. All this talk about AI is so passe. There are already a lot of articles, financial research reports (there is a good one from Goldman Sachs), and YouTube videos about the AI hype bubble bursting. One of the best examples is from the WSJ on July 22, 2024, titled "A Clamor for Generative AI (Even If Something Else Works Better)". This is so reminiscent of the Big Data hype cycle of which I have some good experience. The fact is that Big Data is still useful (especially in regard to AI) but it has not had the impact touted at the beginning.
