I am glad that you mentioned the oil tie-in. If Iran can get back up to their capacity, that takes some pressure off world oil prices as a side effect. Which is funny because Iran is one of Russia's few allies.

@carlbates9110 True, but they still seem to be doing plenty of damage with sanctions on. Like most authoritarian countries they will impoverish their own people to pursue their geopolitical ambitions.

@carlbates9110 Valid points, all. The US is slowly (well maybe not so slowly) withdrawing from the Middle East, so yes, it is more of a regional issue. And it is a region the US does not really care about anymore. It really may come down to Biden, being part of the administration that drafted the accord with Iran, is trying to revive a previous foreign policy "success" that Trump reversed. Of course, I put success in quotes since Obama could not get it through the Senate, thus setting it up to be cancelled by some future president.
