  1. How about another scenario. With the US no longer keeping things secure in the Persian Gulf (although if you are on the west side, it is the Arabian Gulf), Iran invades Saudi Arabia. Militarily the Iranians are much more powerful. An added wrinkle is the current protests. If there is regime change in Iran, and it becomes more pro-western, they may be able to rally force to their side. I am not sure that the Saudis can put together a strong coalition.
