  1. Peter is correct on tactical nukes. They were developed to stop massed tank formations. We have less "controversial" ways to do that these days. Frankly, with all the defensive formations put in place by both the Russians and Ukrainians, we are not seeing massed tank formations attacking. Just the opposite is happening. All of the reports are of two or three tanks, or at most ten or twenty. To allow for massed tank movement in this situation requires air superiority so that narrow corridors can be secured to then allow masses of tanks and other armored vehicles to move through and into the enemy rear. Neither side has that, even locally.
