  1. Peter makes a good point. On the Monroe Doctrine, that was geared towards the Europeans. The US didn't want European wars coming to the Western Hemisphere. That has been successful for the most part. China will try debt trap diplomacy, and many people use the example of Sri Lanka. The US has no pressing interest in Sri Lanka. The Indians do. Let them deal with it. In South America the US will step in, where it makes sense, to bail out those countries, and it probably will be private capital. There are already examples of the "tofu dreg" construction that the Chinese are famous for in South America. The South Americans will get the point. This is true in Africa, and western countries have started to step in there as well. As China collapses things will get better. Frankly, that collapse is going to happen sooner rather than later.
