Those technologies are the way to go. Siting them is also important and I have yet to hear anyone address that. I have been advocating for a while locating batteries at substations, as well as on premise. This would leverage the existing infrastructure. The space is already available at most substations. The issue becomes control of the system. I have worked with technologies that can handle that, and i don't think it is a big deal.
