  1. He can deny it because he's not really speaking to us, he's targeting Trump supporters. And they believe him. When he says, People should congratulate me, Trump supporters say, People should congratulate him. Just think of the Jedi mind trick, which only works (according to Obi-Wan) on the "weak minded." That's what all the hand waving is about.
