@michealstotten3741 Then you've read the Bible? Cover-to-cover? Then you know what the gospels said about Jesus. It's plain as day, and repeated over and over, in case anyone missed it. The OP is correct, even though such labels didn't exist back then: The description and behaviors did. "Sell everything, give the money earned from that to the poor, then follow Jesus." And "Do not vex a foreigner, because you too were once foreigners." And he didn't just say to love everyone, but to "love as I have loved you." That means feeding the hungry, housing the homeless, embracing the lepers and other outcasts TO THE EXTENT THAT JESUS WOULD. His liberalism went far beyond what any lib soc would dream of doing. You read all that?

@edgaracajabon9522 Jesus was not cast out by those who were woke back then. You were right about them being against him for telling them their ways were bad...which is what woke people do. People who are woke, by definition, are aware (awake) of bigotry, and they call it out. That's exactly what Jesus did. And, of course, he taught how to live a happier life, by being kind to everyone. Have you not read the gospels? Or is it just you have the wrong def of woke? Or both?

@earlofmar7987 Can you point to the book, chapter, verse where God told them to do that? I don't remember it. But I do know that the human writers attributed to YHWY their own human characteristics, and wrote the texts centuries after the events related.

@CharlesLee-m4f What are you really asking here? What's your point? That we shouldn't love our neighbor if they break laws? Jesus spoke to that: "The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy; I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full." Jesus was crucified for supposedly being a criminal. The people you see as breaking laws, are still people. And so he taught that we should love them, forgive them, welcome them, and help them.

@CharlesLee-m4f I didn't say that. Try not to be combative. It's Christmas Eve. Show a little decency. We all get punished in life, for what we do wrong in life. But that doesn't mean to totally reject, shun, and dehumanize the person. They did something wrong. Surely you've done wrong things, bad things? We all have. Hence, "let he who is without sin cast the first stone."

@CharlesLee-m4f It does NOT mean that. Just that we love one another. We all do questionable things. But those things are not the entirety of who we are. And we shouldn't be rejected and dehumanized for doing what we all do. Of course there's punishment, one way or the other.

Keep in mind, none of us have seen everything that happened throughout history. So, if you have never seen this aspect of Christianity in your experience, it could have still been out there, and in great abundance.

The "christian" part modifies the "nationalism" part. So it's not just one, but that one using Christianity to accomplish its goals.

The second term is modified by the first. So it's not just one of the terms. Have to know what the words mean, and what the terms mean when used together, all of which have been defined, and you can find it if you look.

It's hard. Ever tried it? You don't have to be a believer, but think of Christianity as a philosophy. The point of it, then, is that treating others kindly, giving to others, makes the giver happy...along with the person who was treated well. The happiness felt by the giver provides clear thinking, healthy psychology, and a happy life. All you have to do is always be kind. Always. Forgive yourself and others, always. Show mercy, compassion always. This doesn't have to cost you a dime. But no disrespect, or snide sarcasm, or ill will. No holding onto anger. When those things happen, you have to admit the wrong you did, and start over again. Try it. See how long you can last before restarting.

@Barbara-u5h You can still read and learn from stories. One thing you'd learn from the Bible is there is no place called heaven to go to. It is a state of mind you reach by loving your neighbor. The Bible also teaches that there is no life after death. You "turn off," like a light switch. But mainly what it teaches throughout is that people have characteristics that never change, no matter the time, place, or culture. It teaches these things through "parables," which the term "stories" doesn't really do justice.

In the story, Jesus asks his apostles who they think he is. Peter said, "You are the Christ." Jesus told Peter and the others to "tell no one" this thing about him being the Christ. This is a parable about how to be a Christian minister: You don't talk about "Christ." You help others, and you be kind, and share the parables Jesus used in the stories. You don't tell them what to believe. All of that has been lost.

Don't have to be religious to learn from the texts religious people use, and misuse. In fact, I've found not being a believer to be very helpful with that.

It has been for some, but not for all. There are over 200 million Christians in the U.S. alone, like a third of the total pop. That's a lot of different people, with different lives, and different circumstances. So shouldn't act like they're all the same, with a single set of characteristics, namely that they're participating in a power grab. It's way more complex than that.

@cherrilynchester6714 You sound very interesting. I like what I'm reading from you. Jesus said, "No one can come to the Father, except through me." And also that God would have to open their eyes for them to even come to Jesus. Sounds like that happened to you.

You mean Paul? Paul didn't teach what Jesus taught. Paul didn't even speak to the apostles the first 5 years of his preaching. His version of Christianity is drastically different from what Jesus taught.

Yeshua is the Hebrew and Aramaic form; Jesus is the Greek: both in English spelling. The "holy spirit" that Jesus talked about in the gospels was not the Christian version of it, which came later; rather, it was the Hebrew version. And just as human beings wrote the Tanakh, so did humans write the New Testament. And they used whatever was part of their world and understanding to write it, including patriarchal thinking.

That's from Paul. Paul didn't preach the gospel. Jesus did. Paul was a Pharisee: He preached "Christianity" for 5 years before ever meeting the apostles. He had no idea what Jesus taught. His whole thing was to believe what you wrote there, or go to you-know-where. He didn't teach any parables, or to love your neighbor.
