  1. A lot of people are on the edge of violence and insanity. Part of that comes with being human: Mortality is scary and humbling, while society demands we be fearless and arrogant, as that's seen as confidence. A big part of it is the culture war, which has millions of battles every day; no one thinks they lose. But no losers and no winners just means a perpetual state of heightened threat. Finally, to cap it off, add to that a feeling that society really has nowhere to go. Outer space is too big; there are very few frontiers left to escape to; the environment is crashing; and the culture war allows us to neither progress or regress--while seeing progression and regression that scares one group of people or another. One more thing...I think most people (me included) see themselves as the most important thing. Since we can only perceive from our own eyes and ears, it's little surprise that we're the stars of our own movie. But because everyone else assumes the same thing about themselves, then very few show anyone the level of deference (let alone respect and loving kindness) that a king/queen of the world deserves. So others "insult our honor," by treating us in a way that is less than we believe we deserve.
