  5. Because the word for "image" used in the Hebrew Torah was the same word used for "idol." Remember "graven images." Same thing. The image is really meant to represent something/someone else. For example, the idol represents some pagan god. So, when the Torah says we're made in God's image, one possible interpretation is that we're here to represent God. And, indeed, the Jews were to be ministers to the whole world, and man's original purpose was (still is) to tend the garden.
