Imagine what level of propaganda and brainwashing it would take to convince these people the government is actually coming to take their guns. And not like that time Obama was supposedly coming to take their guns...and Bibles. It must fill these people with wonderful feelings of importance to believe they are the last stand for freedom in this country. Imagine how empty their lives would feel otherwise.

@petrosspetrosgali "left it up to the states." Amounts to the same thing. Doesn't it? It means abortion will still be unavailable to women in those states. And not just abortion, but any emergency procedure that might fall under the rubric of abortion--like with the woman who had to carry her dead fetus to term. Notice that, after the Civil War, slavery wasn't left up to the states. The United States knew some states would have backwards, stupid people who would do it. Similarly, we have backwards, stupid people who are willing to put women through hell--like the 10-year old rape victim, who had to go to another state, and got called a liar by the conservatives in the national media. Giving that responsibility to the states is counter to the name United States. It's a similar horrible decision as giving people like Dummy Duke here the right to privately own military grade weaponry.

@CAC6363 I think the satire of the Texas secession is that the 2nd amendment is part of the United States constitution. And so that right was given to them by the very nation and government the secessionists hate and want to get away from. The same thing happened in the Confederacy. When Lincoln suspended habeas corpus, for example, the southerners raged against him. But then Jefferson had to do the same thing, when he was President of the Confederacy. The Confederates also hated big government (which is where that comes from), until Jefferson had to regulate most of their lives during war time--just because national government gets the larger jobs done easier that state gov, being able to call on the nation's resources as a whole. The Confederate constitution was pretty much the same thing as the one they abandoned when they seceded. And their Confederate money was worthless almost immediately, everyone switching back to U.S. currency. This goes on and on. Secession and Civil War might sound fun, hypothetically, but no one was laughing during Richmond's bread riots, or when Sherman's bummers came knocking.

That's all that was necessary to read, if you wanted to read any reply at all. Now if anyone wanted to read more, and see this in context (you, for example), I then wrote about how the Confederacy seceded, thinking they'd be better off, believing they'd be different, without big government. See now? Or do I have to explain the explanation of my explanation which explained your misunderstanding of the OP? (That is, if you'll read all this, which you probably won't.)
