@Pete...NoNotThatOne Neither belief nor faith have anything to do with actually knowing anything. It is the absence of knowing that necessitates (or so some people feel) belief or faith. Problem is some people who believe and have faith come to assume the do know what they absolutely do not know.

If you feel your faith was attacked by someone questioning the literal manifestations of it, then your faith wasn't strong to begin with. The only reason for faith is that the claims can't be known or proven--through history, science, or any evidence. If such things were known, there would be no need for faith. Also, taking your faith to be literal (based in reality), when there's no proof of it being based in reality undermines what faith is--since it cannot be proven. Fact is: Beliefs only make sense inside the head of the of the believer. To everyone else, it's nonsense.

@jimbob3030 Anyone who can't handle the doubts has a very weak faith.

I think way too many people get caught up in whether or not the Bible was literal history, whether God exists, the virgin birth, and so on. Meanwhile they ignore the lessons found in the gospels, and the amazing parabolic storytelling by the ancient Hebrews. Imagine if, for every movie and book, most people only argued whether Tom Sawyer or Superman were real. They never bothered with the story, or saw what can be learned from it. (I really respect your missionary work by the way.)

@nicked_fenyx Wow. Still, I envy you. And I applaud you. It's sad about having to convert enough to satisfy the church. A few months ago, I had some Mormons knock, and said they wanted to talk about Jesus. I've read the Bible cover to cover more times than I can remember, and don't often get the chance to discuss it with people who are also knowledgeable. But our discussions always drifted away from what Jesus taught, to me being asked to believe what they believe. Love and forgiveness should be enough; helping others should be enough. Eventually the Mormons realized I wasn't going to believe their ideas, and stopped coming by after a couple weeks.

@rickyhood8213 There is no evidence for Jesus. In fact, there's no evidence for anything in the Bible. The evidence found shows the opposite of all the claims. For example: The Jews were always in their "promised land," and never enslaved to Egypt. So they didn't make the walls of Jericho fall by shouting at it. It's like you're saying there's evidence of Superman existing.

@jimbob3030 Belief is over here.<---- But truth is over there. ---> When a truth is known, demonstrable, provable, then there is no need for belief. When it is not known, etc., then there IS need for belief.

@jimbob3030 YT is not censoring you for what you say about religion. That's silly. But if you say something hateful, your comment will probably get zapped: Though that's not required, as bullying, negative posts are all over the place.

@jimbob3030 So they're out to get you? That what you believe? Silly of me to try and talk sense to you, Billy Joe Jim Bob.

@jimbob3030 There have been quite a few over the past 20-30 years. One is they accepted Galileo was right about Jupiter's moons. This was/is a big deal because it was originally what drove a wedge between science and religion.

@jimbob3030 It wasn't a straw man. It was obviously, deliberately exaggerated. And that was to match your obvious, deliberate exaggeration of the "censorship." Besides we're talking here. Aren't we? Not being censored? Though I'm close to muting you. We have never had a good exchange.
1
@jimbob3030 It's not because of that. It's because you see yourself as knowing everything about every topic. So you never need to learn, and you can't be spoken to or reasoned with. But, yes: Muting you. So long, Billy Joe Jim Bob.
