  1. Idiots or pretending? This is a really fascinating question, first with the Republican politicians, and secondly with their base. We do know that Fox News has strict rules about vaccinations and mask wearing. We know that Trump lied 30,573 times in his four years as President. And we know that the Republican base doesn't care, that they'll still support him (or any of their other politicians) no matter what. It's a staged, scripted reality show, whose audience understands it's not real but go along with it because of the entertainment value: the base gets to pretend/believe that they're crusaders, revolutionaries, and the saviors of the nation, all while daydreaming about persecuting every minority they can find.
