  1. The number one selling point for the Republican brand is this: The Democrats are always wrong. So Republicans can always be right, if they are always against the Dems. If they ever allowed Democrats to be right, or ever agreed with them, or shared the same idea, then they could no longer claim to be exclusively correct. And their base would start to question each time something came up, whether or not the Dems were right. They can't have that.
