When investigating, you can't set out to find evidence for what you already assume is true. First, if you did find anything, it would only be confirmation bias. Secondly, if your assumption is wrong, then you'll not find anything. You have to form an assumption based on the evidence, then test whether or not the assumption fits the evidence. That's just the scientific method. If the Republican politicians are at all sincere in their investigation, and not just catering to their conspiracy-riddled base, then they're going about it in a way that can't work--unless they plant some evidence themselves, which I'm surprised they haven't done yet.
