  2. I recommend it. I was a terrible student in K-12, or really 7-11. I didn't want to learn from teachers who I thought weren't wise and knowledgeable. That wasn't just a teen thing; I was right: This was in eastern North Carolina. But then I realized I could teach myself, that not learning from them had forced me to teach myself. So now I have 8 bookshelves. :)

  3.  @Moebz818  The book is usually better. Movies and TV depend on a lot of moving parts, that all need to work together. A book depends on the writer. And Arthur C. Clarke is one of the best science fiction writers.

And the energy to power our space vehicles, the time it takes to reach even the closest planet (let alone the next star system), and, hopefully, a way to propel ourselves at multiples of light speed. It take two years of light speed travel to reach the closest planet outside our solar system. And, so far, it's impossible to reach light speed, because the energy required to do so would reach infinity--as shown by Einstein. "Space is big. Really big. You just won't believe how vastly, hugely, mind-bogglingly big it is!"

  7.  @DevilTravels  Because you were talking about a "whole universe" where we could live, given that there are too many people on earth. We can't live in the space between planets and stars, at least not any better than we could live on other planets. So I didn't so much ignore it, but focused on what you were talking about. @BigRalphSmith nailed it above: "Basically, humanity is going to be a prisoner of this planet for a long, long time to come. That's why our main goal should be to manage this planet as best we possibly can for the foreseeable future." Colonizing other planets in the universe isn't just about courage, or even necessity. It's about science that doesn't exist for us yet, and maybe never will. At the very least, as @BigRalphSmith put it: "If you look at the actual practical aspects, expanding off of our home planet is not going to be even possible for many hundreds if not thousands of years yet and it's very doubtful that, even if we overcame the super-relativistic travel issues, we would have the ability to literally terraform any planet we might want to colonize."

  9.  @DevilTravels  It's not about will. It's impossible to accelerate to the speed of light, because it would require infinite energy. And space is so big, that it would take seven months just to get to Mars, at regular speed. Mars is 300 million miles away. Then, when we get there, we'd need a way to build what you call a "space habitat." And that we can't do either. You're the one who is wrong here, bud. It's okay. No one knows everything. But you need to learn about the science of what you're proposing, before you claim that others don't know. You think no one has thought of it? That we just don't have the gumption? You think will is going to change the laws of physics? Even Scotty can't do that. :)
