  1. Why would you not have sympathy and/or empathy for children who became fatherless? In my experience and understanding, both sympathy and empathy are very rare these days. It's a sign of good character that someone feels anything at all, frankly, for other people. But feeling sympathy and/or empathy is a sign of excellent character: a moral person, with intelligence, imagination, and good will to spare.
