There are many Christians who believe that all they have to do is believe Jesus was the son of God, born of a virgin, died on the cross for our sins, and was resurrected on the third day. That's it. So none of the mercy, compassion, forgiveness that is typically associated with Jesus' lessons. They feel free to ignore all of those things. Of course, there's no test for belief. Anyone can claim to believe anything. And that's why certain Christians support Trump.
