I really liked that David laid out some basic definitions in this video.

@00SmileTime00 "He literally misquoted Marx in his definition of Marxism." As opposed to metaphorically misquoting it? Can you give the quote, timestamp, and correction then? I'd appreciate it.

@00SmileTime00 First, thanks for answering. Secondly, you used "literally" for "emphasis," instead of it's definition: "taking words in their usual or most basic sense without metaphor or allegory." Hence, my little joke. If you're going to be intelligent, use words correctly, not how people throw it around on the internet.

David is a good teacher. Not everyone is. Teaching is an art, and a science, and a talent. It's hard for some people to combine those three, while explaining something to people who are at unknown levels of knowledge.

@00SmileTime00 Putting aside my quibble, and going to yours, I admit I'm no expert at all in any of this political taxonomy. I want to learn though. But I don't see what you're saying. What David said looks like a paraphrase from what you quoted from Marx. What's the problem? And what were the other things he supposedly got wrong? You said "a bunch."

Or not knowing exactly what an "assault weapon" is. I've given the basic, official definition, and they scoffed at me. So weird!

@efficiencygaming3494 The neat thing is that most everyone is an expert at something. No one knows everything about everything. So it's great to for me to hear what other people know. I don't know much about these political labels. I vote, and stay informed. But never looked into the classifications to see where my point of view fits. I'm looking forward to learning, and this video (and these comments) were a great start.

Commenting so I'll be alerted when someone more knowledgeable than me replies. I'd like to know the answers to those questions as well. :)

@michaelcordeiro12 True. I have a lot of learning to do with all this stuff.

Maybe we can do this too? There doesn't have to be conflict, so much as a kind of taxonomy: a system of classifications and definitions. I don't really see myself as any of those things mentioned. But I've also never really thought much about it. I have my own things to think about. But I'm curious as to what all those terms mean. I guess it could cause conflict, but since we aren't really going to decide here which of those 2-3 directions our society goes in, it wouldn't hurt to think and talk about it.

@danielbarrera8391 "political ideology test" I was curious about this. I've never really tried to define myself, or learn what definitions fit me. It isn't that I don't want to know, I've just learned other things. But I have a personal policy to look into whatever comes my way, when it comes my way--if it strikes my fancy. That's why I'm very interested in hearing more of this from Pakman, and reading informed comments like yours. I also just took a quiz for political ideology at Pew Research website. It said I'm an "establishment liberal," which is kind of disappointing. :)

@danielbarrera8391 I wish I had written down the categories Pew Research listed. I remember "Establishment liberal" being the second from the far left. They said 13% of people who took the quiz got that result, which, given their seven (maybe?) categories, 13% was rather high.

@jahbloomie Einstein: "It is impossible to achieve peace as long as every single action is taken with a possible future conflict in view." (I see what you mean, and agree.)

Don't tease me, bro! :)

He said there was some overlap, right? I can't remember all of it. Certainly equality is a big thing on both sides. And wealth inequality would coincide at least somewhat with race, gender, etc., I'm thinking. He was trying to emphasize that they come from different root issues. Part of that root is material vs. identity, I remember. Of course, material and identity overlap, in a Venn diagram. But they also aren't the same circle, if you follow.

That's a good list. I also want those things.

I really liked this. Challenge my thinking, get me thinking, keep me thinking! Other than my own personal pursuits, I've been so interested in Trump and MAGA, and this social war (of sorts) we have going with them, that I've never really considered any of this. I long for peace again. Maybe we can jump-start the peace within ourselves, just by thinking logically together--using our intellects to consider where we'd like our society to go, once peace does return. Also, I'd like to see more segments on the importance of reading. I enjoyed the one from the other day, and want more please.

@jahbloomie What do you think, now that you've watched it?
