@dibsdibs3495 There's no such thing as a perfect analogy. That's why it's an analogy. You can't make it fit every single possible permutation that the original has.

@dogofwar6539 My buddy lives in Chicago, and never carried a gun. I've lived in the less than stellar neighborhoods of many a city, and never carried a gun. I've had my home broken into, while I was home and in bed with my pajamas on--and never owned a gun.

@dibsdibs3495 "there is however such a thing as a bad analogy and this is one" An analogy is a partial similarity. It isn't meant to capture the entire thing. That would be an equivalency. I can't really argue for it being a good or bad analogy, only that it worked...for me. If it didn't work for you, fine. That doesn't make it bad. Plus, I think the point of the video the OP commented on was that the so-called gun logic would look stupid, when compared with anything else. So discussing whether it works as an analogy seems to be beside the point.

@shihyuchu6753 "Do you think it's logical to take guns away from law abiding gun owners?" No one is trying to do that. Understand? NO ONE! But when people are led to believe that (usually by the people who are actively brainwashing them for/against everything else), then they assume the government is out to get them and take their guns. So they don't permit any conversation about common sense gun laws, and absolutely hate the government (except their own party). You statement is why we can't discuss common sense gun laws, and why so many innocent people die from mass shootings.

None of the "logic" against common sense gun laws work. They aren't meant to. They're told by the NRA and Republican politicians to deflect any possible drop in gun sales--even at the cost of insane people getting guns and killing innocent people.
