One way or another, no matter what anyone believes, it's obvious that the people of the U.S. have never been more divided in the past 150 years. Now, maybe that happened naturally. Certainly could have. Or maybe we were deliberately destabilized. It wouldn't take much. We've always been very different from each: a melting pot. But that has always been our greatest strength. The one sure way to victory is to turn an opponent's strength into a weakness. All it needed was a persistent seed of divisiveness, and the rest would be taken up by Americans.
