  1. Two quotes come to mind. The first (from my favorite writer, Kurt Vonnegut) is whether or not Trump believes this, as David talked about: "We are what we pretend to be, so we must be very careful what we pretend to be." The second is whether or not his supporters believe it. Now, for them, we could just refer back to the first quote. But I'm thinking of the people who participated in January 6th, and weren't even registered to vote, about the people who would, personally and physically, attack the government: "Some people just want to watch the world burn."
