Exactly! Well said. No law should be based on religion, or what a person believes their god hates or likes.

While fighting immoral religious laws by claiming religious exemption is an interesting take, I'd rather see people saying that laws can't be based on interpretations of religion, or on religion at all. Just because someone believes that God hates a man for dressing like a woman, doesn't mean their belief should be law. In fact, it should be unconstitutional. I know that's why Republicans also claim all the grooming stuff, and wail, "Won't somebody please think of the children?" But they need to be confronted, and forced to admit that children are not at risk, and this is based on religion. And laws cannot be based on religion.

I just want to quote this, for the YouTube record, because it's so awesome: "...there are those who believe that cisgender individuals properly adhere to their natal sex and that transgender individuals have inappropriately chosen a contrary gender identity, male or female, just as one might choose whether to read Shakespeare or Grisham." This is at the heart of the problem, no doubt. I love analogies, and this is a good one.

@VitalVampyr All true. No analogy is perfect. If it was, it would be an equivalence. That's why coming up with one is a fun challenge. :)
