@I_AM_BAYTOR I'd argue that most people even get into politics for moral reasons. But it is pretty hard to stay moral with the way politics functions. Particularly in some countries, like the US. In my country of the Netherlands it's a bit easier to remain moral in politics, but still difficult honestly.

The law is just a piece of paper, it only matters if the people that have to enforce it care.

Same, although things are crazy in the Netherlands rn as well, it's not even remotely as bad as in the US. Luckily the Netherlands has a much more robust democratic system where no one has even remotely the same amount of power as the US president has, or any party as much as the Republicans (literally never has the Netherlands had a single party with more than 50% of votes, more than 33% is already extremely rare).

The law is nothing but a gentlemans agreement. In the end it's a piece of paper: if people don't care about it, it means nothing.

In times like these, I'm happy I at least live an ocean away. Good luck out there in insaneland.

I won't vote, because I'm Dutch, but I fully agree with LegalEagle's points nonetheless. If I could have, it would have been very easy to decide which vote to cast. I'm just glad to live in a country where such a 2 party system doesn't exist and 1 person, or even 1 party, can never gain this much power. All I can do is hope the United States of America will vote wisely.

The LA fires seem to be a little spark compared to the Washington fires.

@Lobsterwithinternet you should be able to be sued for that, but it should just be practically immediately be dismissed by the courts. You should be able to sue anyone for anything, it's up to the courts to decide whether it is legit. But the US has this completely broken system where sueing someone actually means something even if you have no case, since there're basically no pro deo lawyers (lawyers that are paid for by the government).

@w415800 he's a lawyer. He doesn't need funding. The funding you need for a case is for the lawfirm. He owns a lawfirm. So all it costs him is time (which is valuable yes, but it doesn't require funding really).

I'm just happy I live in a country where pardoning is literally illegal and doesn't exist. The only one that can stop you from being sentenced is a judge, by calling a not guilty verdict, if you are, in fact, not guilty.
