I was floored when I first saw this time lapse, as although you know in your head that these bushfires were big, you don't realise just how big until you see the length of the smoke trail spanning the width of the planet. I even hear that smoke particles made their way all the way to South America! Something else I learned since making this video is that if smoke particles push into the stratosphere, they will stay there a lot longer than if they had stayed in the troposphere. Very interesting yet scary when this is our planet!

Air temperature was mentioned not because it starts fires, but because combined with drought it dries out the vegetation. The triggers for the fires could be all of the above.

I didn't realise the size of some of those bushfires, so thanks for posting this. However, the area of land doesn't always tell the full story, the reason these ones were described as being the worst ever was because it was the forests burning, in an area which is normally a temperate climate, and thus was much more populated.
