Possibly it is simply camouflage to avoid being seen in the Ice Age tundra steppe, no ultraviolet

Blonde hair and blue or grey eyes were an adaptation to the tundra-steppe of the Ice Age, some 30,000 years ago (very possibly an inheritance from the Neanderthals after interbreeding with them, that is, those who suffered this adaptation were the Neanderthals, which was inherited by the mestizos resulting from their mixture with the Cro-Magnons who lived in the tundra steppe 30,000 years ago).

These colours are the result of an adaptation to the European tundra during the Ice Age, between 40,000 and 10,000 years before now, possibly inherited from Homo (and Mulier) Neanderthalensis.

Blue-gray eyes are an adaptation to life in the tundra and to the cold. It was possibly originated in Neanderthals and transferred from Neanderthals to Sapiens in early genetic mixing that occurred with Neanderthals about 40,000 years ago (at that time Sapiens still had chocolate-colored skin).
