  2. China works on corruption. It works in the civilians sector, but I don't think it works very well in the military.

  3. The carrier is there to make a political statement. It is a direct challenge to the USA. Everyone knows it would be smashed in an engagement with a US carrier group, but that just makes it an even stronger statement.

  4. Cappy, there won't be a war. That isn't the Chinese way. They're going to build an army and navy strong enough to punch us in the nose. Then, all Pacific nations will blue up with them because they don't think we can protect them. The only way to stop this is a preemptive strike, which is something we aren't willing to do. Thus, China wins if we keep doing what we're doing and they keep doing what they're doing. Nobody will die, but that will be the sun setting on our empire.

  5. Cappy, they don't have to transport all of them at once. In fact, I don't think they'd attempt a contested landing unless they were absolutely sure they would succeed, and with the numbers you've put out, they can't do that. Instead, they're going to glass the beaches and every other asset that would let Taiwan contest a landing. Then, they'll just ferry them to the island several times over.
