  1. Exactly. Ukraine is the first Battle of a long war, fought to restore the Soviet Union. We can fight Putin now, or we can do it later, but he will eventually push us as far as he can.

  3. The conscripts aren't ethnic Russians from the urban regions. Most of them are too poor, too ignorant, or too scared to do anything else. They're victims—even more than the Ukranians. The Russian regulars are another story, but the conscripts, at least, never had a choice.
