Maybe it is a bit sexist, but to be fair traditional gender roles are still very common in Japan. After woman are married they normally quit their jobs and after having children rarely return to full time work.

Damn that is crazy !! I'm guessing if you get caught you will just get a slap on the wrist. Also the police are too busy to investigate properly. Actually I just searched on the internet and apparently the police don't investigate unless the amount stolen is more than $18,165. I'm not surprised Denmark is an attractive country for thieves and burglars !!

I don't believe there are any legal restrictions. However trying to get a loan may be very difficult for non residents. Wealthy investors from other parts of asia have been buying up Japanese real estate recently http://www.japantimes.co.jp/news/2016/10/09/national/asian-investors-snapping-japanese-properties/

Thanks for the informative tour. Land is obviously very limited in Japan, even in smaller cities the houses take up nearly all of the section. Unfortunately it seems to be going this way in many countries as populations grow and land gets scarcer. Whereas once huge sections were normal, now they seem to be getting smaller and smaller ! No more backyard sports or barbecues for a lot of people !! One thing I noted about Japan is that the construction method for houses rarely, if ever, involves the use of basements. In contrast in somewhere like Canada it seems pretty common. In the posh suburbs of London where land is scarce, people have gone crazy for so called iceberg homes with multilevel basements incorporating things like swimming pools, home cinema rooms, wine cellars and so forth !!
