  1. That is really interesting. Brings back memories of my days as an ALT at various Japanese elementary schools. More than once I almost inadvertently caused a riot during school lunch. Is that elementary school a kind of model school for lunches ? I found a story in the washington post a few years back that went to the same school. I don't think every school has a full kitchen and assortment of kitchen staff like that. Some may share a centralized kitchen between schools.

  3. There are vegetarians in Japan. I worked as an ALT at various elementary schools and the schools did try and accommodate vegetarians by giving them a special meal. Can't say this was a Japan wide policy though.
