  3. An FA18 can destroy any of Japan's 1942 aircraft without expending any ordinance at all. Simply passing by them at mach 2 within 40 yards or so would cause them to suffer structural failure from the shockwave, loss of instruments, and probable pilot incapacitation as canopies fail and goggles shatter.

  4. Detonate one warhead and flatten Yokohama, then simply cruise into Tokyo harbor and tell Hirohito he has one hour to get his ass to the carrier and surrender if he wants any part of Japan to remain above sea level.

  5. Fun thing to do in Europe: don't nuke Berlin, just nuke Berchtesgaden and tell the Germans that they have 24 hours to hand Hitler over for trial, or you'll start demolishing their population centers from largest to smallest until there is no more "master race".

  6. The carrier should dispatch a wing of F18s to Britain to destroy the Luftwaffe on the ground in about a week. Three modern choppers replacing the entire fixed-wing aircraft complement on a ship like the Ark Royal would eliminate the U-boats in night action in no more than a month. With no threat to Atlantic convoys, they could proceed to clear the North Sea of the Kriegsmarine, eliminating any hazard to arctic convoys. Britain and Russia both get supplied a lot faster, D-Day can happen in the spring of '43, and the Russians can overrun Berlin a year earlier.

  10. The only way they could board would be if the destroyer crew was kind enough to drop them a ladder. A modern destroyer could sink any Roman galley by swamping it with their wake.
