  1. I think it comes down to how good (durable) the roller bearings that make contact with the swash plate are. That would be the main point of wear in this design, I would think.

  3. There was also a diesel locomotive engine produced in the UK in the 1960s that had three crankshafts and opposed pistons in a triangular arrangement.
