If you burn any fuel in a piston engine, you lose about 2/3 of the chemical energy as exhaust heat. Fuel cells can be 70 to 90% efficient.

This is an exceptionally bad idea. If you have hydrogen, put it in a fuel cell and get 80+% efficiency. Burn it in a piston engine, and you'll lose 2/3 of the energy out of the exhaust or the radiator.

I think the Liquid Piston rotary beats it handily for power/weight ratio.

This has been known for at least 30 years. The entire purpose of the ethanol mandate was to rob Americans to benefit ADM and Cargill. Their lobbyists are better at buying congressmen than we are.
