  1. You may have already run across this example of anvil casting in Australia. I'm no expert, but these guys sure seem to know what they're doing: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I8MIKOPSNrQ One thing they're doing that I hadn't seen before is that they paint the mold with a refractory paint which delivers a very fine surface finish, and no loose sand in the casting at all.
