  3. This format is very appropriate for desktop distros, thank you. I can understand (or imagine) that fine differences in performance make a real difference on servers, but it's all Linux, and at the desktop I wonder just how much difference in performance there is? MX Linux is often described as lightweight and performance oriented--can you point me, please, to comparisons in performance of desktop tasks--like reformatting a long word processor document, or processing a RAW image file--between lean distros and the friendly ones? Perhaps also the audience of this channel is not about to switch from Windows, but is likely to be advising friends/relatives on the switch. In which case, it is necessary but not easy to drop one's own preferences and think about a user who actually doesn't WANT to understand their computer, but just wants to do stuff with it (like most folk use a phone). Don't put your cousins and your aunts onto Arch, btw.

  4.  @amonaxos  The point of Linux, in my case, is that it is easier to maintain and use than Windows or MacOS, and it is not trying to get control of my data like Windows. I've got nothing against people using Linux as a hobby, but it's got to the point that it's a viable option for normies just doing normy things, and having no more interest in the inner workings of their OS than they do in the workings of the phone systems. Such people should be allowed to use Linux, I think, yes?

  5.  @amonaxos  I understand where you're coming from. My position is that lots of people would be better off, and the world would be better off, if they used Linux instead of Windows, even modern compromised Linux, and used it with the same lack of knowledge as they currently have about Windows. It's possible. One thing that holds people back is the sense that the Linux world is the preserve of either greybeard server admim wizards, or those who want to keep it as a secret boys' club. We certainly need the wizards like you; the annoying teenagers are only a problem in so far as they mess up the comments threads and make Linux daunting to someone who's looking around to see if a simple DE is right for them. I use Mint, btw, as I have work to do.
