@realGBx64 If the US president had the power of the UK monarch, or monarchs of other European countries, it wouldn't matter who had the position, except on aesthetic grounds. It is not the 18th c.

@realGBx64 No, we're arguing about misrepresentations of the power of the UK monarchy. And this matters because people who want a republic are misrepresenting the present situation. Monarchy is a ridiculous system, but the process of changing from monarchy to republic will use a fantastic amount of energy and resources for no tangible benefit to the majority of people, but the mega-egos will strut and push and lie and bribe to be top honcho. There's also the little problem of deciding what sort of republic you want, and especially the powers of the president. Obviously Australia will become a republic fairly soon, and these issues will have to be decided; but they will be better decided if there is some real knowledge of the constitutional position, rather than the silly ideas pushed irrelevantly on YouTube.
