  2. But people don’t use every word metaphorically and even if could. Using “sleep” metaphorically as meaning death even goes back in history of the scriptures. When the dentist or doctor says they're going to put someone to sleep they are not using “sleep” metaphorically…......I think you’re trying to split hairs.<-----Idiom =)-

  3. Even in the UK a lot of people say "put to sleep" to also mean euthanize….But she had already stated it had been “tranquillised” before saying “put to sleep” and therefore no confusion of what kind of put to sleep.
