@PsycoMouse I don’t necessarily disagree, but, to me, it comes off as premeditated and not willing to negotiate in good faith. Instead use it an advertisement to generate drama before Crowder ultimately does his own thing, using the situation to distinguish it and say,” we’re not like the other guys”.
Which brings up a second point of overlap. Mug Club would absolutely bring revenue to DW, but without the info there’s no way to tell.
Mikhaila Peterson brought up a good point regarding her father’s contract negations taking ~5mos because it started out as similarly ‘boilerplate’ originally. Afaik, there was no attempts to negotiate here. It just seems weird that you would take the first lowball offer and use it to gin up drama instead of counter offers which hopefully meet somewhere in the middle with both parties happy. I mean, we’re talking about $50-$100 million here.
There are other aspects but my point is that, from what I’ve seen, there was never really an attempt to negotiate. And why you don’t get financially entangled with friends.
The infighting is antithetical to the message. I’m not placing ‘blame’ on either side. I’ve watched both for years and it’s a shame to see it unfold in this way. And I can only speak for myself
Edit: And ya, I agree…but I wouldn’t call them ‘elite’. That’s what my controller is called X))

@PsycoMouse oh for sure there are better ways. As a matter of fact, I was just ruminating on it more. If I had to guess, I would say Crowder is looking for a better work/life balance. He’s got a lot on his shoulders and it’s not exactly a secret that his ‘content’ has been treated unfavorably by these tech companies, especially when calling out their BS. I wouldn’t be surprised if he’s tired of it and just wants to do his thing without having to worry about all that i.e. strikes, bans, ad-reads, etc. Let the publisher worry about all that as “cost of doing business”.
Unfortunately, that isn’t the case. It could be, but it seems like DW isn’t interested in doing business that way. That’s not to say “they are doing the bidding of big tech” but more like “working within the confines and restrictions those platforms entail” to be able to be heard and make money to continue fighting for their respective values, whatever those may be. Believe me, I understand where both are coming from. There are just portions to me that come off as disingenuous. On both sides. The speed of the breakdown probs being the main one. At least imho
If nothing else the situation could serve as a case study in some of the differences between conservatives and libertarians
