So the acceleration of the expansion of the universe is measured in mega parsecs over billions of light years away. Even with the Doppler effect, we are measuring this expansion as it is being observed by the light reaching is now, but actually happened billions of years ago in time, thus leading to the conclusion that the further away it is, the faster it’s expanding If we use this explanation run in reverse to theorize the Big Bang, why isn’t the same rationale used to explain the faster expansion further away that happened further back in time? How can we say it’s accelerating now when we can only see what’s happening in the past? The further we look, the faster it’s expanding in the past. Just like how stars we see now might not actually even exist anymore and the light hasn’t had the time to reach us telling of their demise. Furthermore, the universe isn’t expanding “into” anything, so the initial speed of expansion of the Big Bang could be theoretically maintained indefinitely with no outside force acting upon it. Could it not then theoretically be acted upon by “internal” forces eventually leading to a Big Crunch or bounce?
