This is more indicative of a pole shift where polar north was not so far away in the past if we go back some 12,000 to 13,000 years ago.

  67. . . a pole shift is something that in reality makes more sense than an ice age -- while some people like Graham Hancock now say that an impact event was responsible for the end of the ice age. However, the kind of impact event necessary for the elimination of the entire North American ice sheet would result in an extinction event much greater than that which is known to have occurred around that time period some 12,000 years ago. Regarding the ice age itself in theory, let's look at the example of present day New York City that once had more than a mile of ice sitting above it, that today experiences summer temperatures in the 80s and 90s Fahrenheit. If we consider very different circumstances that may have existed in the past -- different ocean and wind currents can create unusual weather patterns by today's standards and reduced temperatures. We can take this to an extreme and consider a reduction in summer temperatures at that time of as much as 30 degrees. This would still result in summer temperatures in the 50s and 60s through which no accumulation of snow and ice would remain during summer months. Differences caused by changes in solar output combined with minor variations in the earth's orbital radius can affect mean global temperatures by as much as 3 or 4 degrees -- not nearly enough to account for a drop in temperatures sufficient for snow and ice to remain through an entire summer.

Changes in solar output and the Earth's slight variation in orbital radius can only account for a predictable change of mean global temperatures of around 3 or 4 degrees. Changes in ocean and wind currents cannot reduce temperate regions to arctic like conditions with ice and snow accumulation remaining through summer months. It appears to be another case of consensus building as well as career building and funding requirements within education and other institutions of science, in order to maintain the theory of an ice age that may have begun before more evidence became available -- including frozen mammoths found with undigested vegetation in their stomach. No impact event in North America is going to cause a massive drop in temperature that clearly took place in Siberia during a very short period of time at the approximate time period when the ice age was said to have ended. There is clearly an effort to create the notion that no catastrophic events have occurred in relatively recent times -- as well as the denial for evidence of a much greater human history -- while the notion of an impact event responsible for the elimination of an entire continental ice sheet (and ignoring the massive extinction event that would be unavoidable) -- may be intended to divide the attention of those who do consider other points of view as well as to maintain support for the ice age -- a truly untenable theory in full view of objective evidence, while there is evidence of a physical polar shift during periods of the Earth's past as well as a magnetic one.
