  1. The Pinto, Vega, and Gremlin all had their gas tanks in exactly the same location, basically, and so did a lot of cars in the '60s, '70s, and '80s. I had a Datsun that put the gas tank behind the back seat, but the only thing protecting it was a piece of black cardboard. Safety wasn't something on people's minds back then.
