The sad part about this is that any competent engineer, or for that matter anybody with a grasp of basic physics and rocketry could have told this guy that his tiny rocket powered by steam could not reach the Karman line. That, and the fact, I suspect, that nobody with any real experience in man-rated rocketry had anything to do with this crazy project. This was a tragedy waiting to happen.

  2. This is what happens when people who don't know that much about rocket science build rockets. And from one mile up, you're not going to see the curve of the Earth, what you're going to see is a few seconds of the ground rushing up towards you at 200 miles an hour.
