We live in social democracies (capitalist), not socialist states. From what I know, socialism as it is supposed to be done (an already rich state transitioning to a socialist economy) has never been done. It's always been poor unindustrialised states going socialist way before they have the necessary wealth to pull it off. No developed state has gone socialist.
