USA would lose very hard. The US would lose against the continent of Europe alone (EU + Russia, ouch). What would be more interesting would be the US vs South America, Africa or the Middle East. Whether they could conquer those areas.

@timewave02012 Don't think you could. The entire world outproduces you by a very very wide margin. At some point you're just overpowered. The rest of the world holds all the cards and after a few years you'd be so ridiculously outnumbered that there is no hope.

@Melnek1 By then our homeland was already taken over by the Germans. The colonies were poorly protected as a consequence. They essentially had to make do with their standard peacetime defence instead of a built-up wartime force. And yeah the Japanese weren't exactly friendly in their treatment. My aunt was placed in a concentration camps along with all Dutch settlers there. And what people tend to forget about Indonesia as a whole is that 4 million people died under Japanese management.

@Melnek1 That may be the case, yes. I know a lot returned to the Netherlands, but I'm unsure about South Africa. By far the most returned to the Netherlands, but they've also gone to Australia, America and South Africa. Though I do not have exact numbers for those.

@CrazyNikel The EU alone could produce the same as or more than the US if it switches to a war economy. Add Russia (not that impressive nowadays tbh), India and China and you're looking at a massive disadvantage in production. I'm not spewing anti-US bigotry, I'm giving you a reality check. No country on the planet can withstand the onslaught of the rest of the world, it is not possible to defend against that. And Iran is not a small military, it can protect itself decently well. The US could definitely have it, but that would require a very large operation I don't think the US has the political and popular support for. It's like Vietnam. You completely demolished them with 55.000 deaths compared to over a million enemy kills, but those 55.000 American deaths were just too much for the public and politicians to justify continuing the war. A modern army vs modern army situation takes years and always has a lot of mutual casualties. The US can only easily invade countries that do not have modern anti air systems, submarines and other technology that prevents the US from having absolute aerial and naval superiority. It's much more difficult to attack a country like Iran for that reason.

@CrazyNikel No... Iran is not Iraq. Iran actually has a pretty decent defence force. The US would need to set up a big operation to make an invasion happen. Realistically I doubt that they'd have the political and especially popular support to do that. Invading Iran is no joke. My money would be on Iran succesfully defending. If we ignore the political/popular element and assume the US government has full support, they could invade Iran but at a fairly high cost of US lives. Nonetheless they should be able to make it happen.

@boyteebah3794 Yeah the Swiss Navy is badass. They have full control of their... lakes. No destroyer, cruiser or even battleship dares to venture close
